Client Profile
CASB (Central Airmen Selection Board) is a division of the Indian Air Force, responsible for best and fair selection of Candidates. Initially, they take a written test at the time of the application followed by a physical fitness test, an interview conducted in English, and a medical examination.
Key Challenges
Approximately 5 lakh applications are processed every year for Airmen – manually first, and later at stages such as duplicate checks, fraudulent candidates, medical records, written tests, physical tests, interviews and medical tests. The Previous process was very stressful leaving chances for errors in the selection procedure.
Helping IAF automate the existing process, the proposed solution will make it rapid with enhanced security checks to avoid manual dealing and enhance the overall performance.
Solution offered
Spanco conducted a system study for gap analysis and information gathering. Manual application forms were to be processed using the latest technology and work flow i.e. Admin, Application, OCR, Examination, Test & Enrolment, Medical and ASC Enrolment Modules.
The solution was deployed on P-Series IBM Servers with SAN and integrated with user desktops, laptops and heavy duty document scanners for data extraction and validation by using OCR technology. Other devices such as Biometric Scanners, Optical Mark Readers, Barcode Readers and Web Cameras were integrated into the COTS to check answer sheets automatically. Application Software and equipments were procured, developed, installed and deployed and LAN was integrated at the central and all 14 ASCs.
