Deputy Director General of Information Technology is a nodal agency of the Indian Army, responsible for technical vetting of projects, laying down IT policies, monitoring projects and IT roadmap for the Army. DDGIT is also responsible for laying down standards protocols, planning and facilitating IT training.

Key Challenges
The scope of work included the administrative and technical functions and tasks performed by establishments under DDGIT. Project goals involved:

Designing a custom application to monitor ongoing IT projects. All project files should be uploaded and stored in electronic        format at DDGIT for future references and other usages.
Maintaining and retrieving relatively static data.
Setting up an intranet portal with various internal modules to extend their employees for day-to-day operations.
Securing the planned portal. Only authorized users should be able to login and access designated sections/subsections of        the portal based on their profile. Stakeholders can access applications only after authentication and authorization.

Solution offered
Spanco conducted a system study for gap analysis within the organization and focused on the automation of DDGIT activities keeping in mind the future plans and the potential impact of the technology on the enterprise and its users.

Following activities were carried out:-
Procurement, installation and commissioning of the equipments
Integration of LAN with Army Intranet
Development, testing and deployment of hardware and commercial software and complete networking of various sections of        DDGIT
